Dear readers and friends,
My apologies, especially to those paid subscribers for any lapse of consistency I have had in newsletters as of late. This spring has been an incredibly busy season for me personally, professionally and athletically.
I have been in the middle of an intense training block for what has become my one goal race of 2023 which has taken over the vast majority of my ‘free’ time. I just got engaged to the love of my life (shoutout Zoe Davis). Between training (and recovery from said training), travel, and planning for the next season of my life, my creative pursuits have been the first thing out the window, and I am sad to think I have overpromised and underdelivered to those of you expecting consistent content from this blog.
However, as you may have noticed I am rebranding the blog ever so slightly, and I am committed to devoting the time and energy necessary to keep this ship sailing. Not only because I enjoy doing it, but because I believe things are worth doing well. As I states, the course is shifting, but I am over the moon excited about the direction it will take us together. One of my main goals is aspiring to think differently about the challenges we all face, and to never simply accept the obstacle before us is insurmountable. Endurance training has taught me that my lowest lows aren’t typically going to last as long as a I think nor are they the new permanent reality. So often in life we experience difficulty and our first reaction is, “this will never get better,” or “it will always be like this” which simply isn’t the case. Think differently and don’t accept the limitations that 99% percent of people will just take as a given and succumb to a perceived life sentence.
But I digress.
Exciting news and things to look forward to:
I will be doing more writing!
Adam Giard and I’s podcast When The Going Gets Tough continues to roll out episodes and in my we are only getting better at engaging with each other, engaging with our guests and our listeners.
I am working on more creative pursuits and avenues to inspire adventure and movement through visual media, more to come on this May/June 2023.
A few closing thoughts to give anyone reading an idea of what direction I hope to take my creative pursuits in the future.
First, I am committed to being honest in my writing, and by that I mean I am going to keep writing about what I believe is interesting, valuable, thought provoking, and personally worth reading. Too many times I believe we start to say, write and think too much about what we assume an audience wants to hear. So quickly does that become fake, boring, and painfully obvious. So for your sake and mine I refuse to fall into that trap.
Second, I am open about the direction this blog takes. I am not going to pigeon hole my content into a specific sport (although I love ultra-running and trail running). I do believe there is a gold mine of value in the principles to be found through exercise and athletic pursuits. I hope to inspire through what actually interests me, not what’s trendy or hot in health and wellness right now.
It’s my hope you keep reading, keep engaging with ideas that allow you to see your own challenges differently, and bring someone along with you while you’re at it. Feel free to share this blog with anyone you think might find it mildly uplifting or somewhat entertaining.
As always, treat yourself to some movement today.
